A Brooklyn doctor who flooded the city with millions of illegal Oxycodone prescriptions pleaded guilty to 16 felony charges Monday.
Lazar Feygin, 72, sold the Oxycodone scrips from medical offices in Clinton Hill and Kensington, and also took part in schemes to defraud Medicaid and Medicare, officials said.
He encouraged his staff at Parkville Medical Health and LF Medical Services NY to perform unnecessary tests on people seeking the pills, and then bill Medicaid or Medicare or their insurance companies, said prosecutors.
The clinics illicitly prescribed 3.7 million Oxycodone pills from 2012 to 2017, said a news release from Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan. The prescriptions grossed the clinics $16 million in Medicare and Medicaid money, Brennan said.
Under his plea agreement in Manhattan Supreme Court to charges of criminal sale of prescriptions, health care fraud and conspiracy, Feygin is expected to receive a five-year prison term and forfeit his medical license.
A separate case in Brooklyn Federal Court aims to recover the money Feygin took, Brennan’s office said.
Feygin, a Staten Island resident, was among 13 doctors and medical professionals arrested in the scheme two years ago. Among those charged was Alec Brook-Krasny, 61, a former state Assembly member from Brooklyn.
